Single Engine Piston Rating

Every pilot will have flown single engine aircraft at some point in their careers, but not all will have gained, or retained, the associated qualification.

Simply put, the Single Engine Piston (Land) class rating adds the ability to fly these aircraft to your existing licence.

If you already hold an SEP rating on your licence, but need to revalidate or renew it, please click here for information on how we can help you achieve this.

The Basics…

On completion of the course and passing the Rating Skills Test, you will be issued with a “Single Engine Piston (Land)” rating, valid for two years at a time.

The course consists of a nominal 3 hours flying, with a brush up of the associated theory as you progress. There are no written examinations to complete, as your theoretical knowledge will be assessed face-to-face by your Flight Examiner during the skills test itself.

Any previous experience gained on single engine aircraft will count towards the 3 hour course requirement, provided that you reach test standard within that time.

Before you start…
